There was in-fighting and discord in the parliamentary parties. A new political party was formed from the ruins of the Movement for Democratic Change Alliance (mdc-a). It dominated opposition politics and predictably became the target of state and zanu-pf attacks. There was no let-up in reported political repression, human rights violations, and the harassment of opposition activists, csos, journalists, and critics. Government efforts at resuscitating the economy and ‘re- engaging’ with the West continued. Relations with the Global South remained good. Humanitarian and socioeconomic challenges did not ease.
