Androcentrism is defined as “male-centeredness,” rooted in the cultural view of the male as normative human being. The historical roots of this cultural view are discussed, together with its expression in Latin-based languages. Also discussed are its legal roots, its expression in Greek philosophy, especially Aristotle, and in theology and the social and educational practices that are biased toward the elite male of the society. ⸙
