Flemish historian. Lille, 23 January 1540 - Madrid, 2 April 1592. His father, an important magistrate, took his family in 1549 to Tournai, in 1551 to Bruges, in 1558 to Malines. Doctor in law at the Louvain University, he became a lawyer at Brussels, was for some time at the Court of Emperor Maximilian II (in 1569 and again in 1571), and finished his life in Spain. Cf.
