Portuguese physician. Castelo de Vide, c. 1500 - Goa (India), c. 1568. Studied medicine at the Spanish universities of Salamanca and Alcala de Henares. He returned to his native town in 1523, became qualified to practice medicine and then moved to Lisbon. In March 1534 he sailed for Goa to become the personal physician to the Portuguese vice-kings.
