Brabant humanist of Spanish descent, lawyer and theologian. Antwerp, 17 May 1551 - Louvain, 19 October 1608. He studied law at the universities of Paris, Douai, and Louvain. Doctor in law at the University of Salamanca in 1574, Delrio was made member of the Council of Brabant in 1575, to rise to the dignity of vice-chancellor of Brabant in 1578. The political troubles ended his administrative career. He resigned of all his charges, went to Spain and entered the Jesuit Order at Valladolid on 9 May 1580. In the following years, as a Jesuit father, he travelled a lot, teaching and studying in the Netherlands (Douai, Liège, Louvain), Germany (Mayence), Austria (Graz), and Spain (Salamanca, Valladolid).
