Italian scholar. Venice, 1517 - Alba Julia (Carlsberg) in Transylvania, 16 May 1592. Few details are known of his early life (he must have been dean in the order of the Regular Canons of St. Augustinus, but left the order and married). At the end of 1554 or in the first months of 1555 he left Milan, arriving in the spring of 1555, by way of Germany, in Antwerp. From the Netherlands he moved to Spain and England (1556), returning finally to Italy (1556/57-1565). He got into trouble with the Inquisition and had to flee Venice. After a long stay at Lyons (1565-1572), he went to Central- Europe (1572-75: in Transylvania; 1576-87: in Poland; 1588-91: at Prague; last trip to Transylvania in 1591-92). Cf. M.
