Dutch physician and humanist. Hoorn, 1 July 1511 - Middelburg, 16 June 1575. Promoted doctor in medicine at Bologna in 1540. Resided for some time in Paris and in England. In 1562-63 preceptor of the crown prince of Denmark, later King Christian IV. In 1563 he became physician of the city of Haarlem and at the same time rector of the Latin School in that town. After the taking of Haarlem by the Spanish troops and the sacking of his library in July 1573, he went to Middelburg, where he was appointed physician of the city in 1574, but where he died already in 1575.
