The Trésor of Amadis de Gaule consists of extracts from orations, letters, etc., to be found in the twelve books of the French translation of Amadis de Gaule. The aim of this compilation is very neatly defined in the title of Plantin's edition: 'pour servir d'exemple, à ceus qui desirent apprendre à bien écrire missives, ou parler François.' The first known edition dates from 1559. It became, as Amadis de Gaule itself, a best-seller often reprinted. H. Vaganay, 'Les "Trésors d'Amadis". Essai de Bibliographie' in Revue hispanique, 57, 1923 (quoted Vaganay), enumerates 17 editions, published between 1559 and 1606.
