Italian humanist and priest. Messina, c. 1540 - Giovenazzo, March 1610. Studied philosophy and theology and became a priest. A protégé of Cardinal Granvelle, viceroy of Naples, he was appointed by Philip ‖ royal chaplain and historiographer during a stay in Spain. Shortly after his return in Sicily, in 1587, he became canon at the chapter of Girgenti, to be appointed bishop of Giovenazzo in 1588.
