Monophysite patriarch of Antioch, c. 465 - 538. Studied at Alexandria and Berytus, was baptized in 488, and became later a monk. He went to Constantinople, c. 508, was made Patriarch of Antioch in 512, but already deposed in 518 and excommunicated by a synod at Constantinople in 536. He was the leading theologian of the moderate Monophysites.
