Note 1Reprint of the 1581-edition, with only the change of the foreword to the reader. In the new foreword the 'typographus' [= Plantin or Jan Moretus ?] underlines that the edition is larger than any similar work published till then - but he omits this time to mention Robertus Stephanus and his Concordantiae. The work must have been finished before the capitulation of Antwerp (17 August 1585) (cf. letter of Plantin, 3 December 1585: Corr., VII, no. 1049, page 226), but very likely Plantin or his sons-in-law, at that time in charge of the Officina Plantiniana at Antwerp, foresaw the possibility that the book would be largely sold to a Catholic public or at least in a Catholic country - and for Catholics the name of the Calvinist Robertus Stephanus was not a particularly good reference.
Note 2The publication was printed in 2,500 copies (Arch. 788).
Note 3Not listed in M 296, M 164, or - more strangely - in Ms. 321.
