Note 1 Contains the French translations of some Greek authors: a) The letters attributed to Phalaris (translated by Claude Gruget) (13r [= 7r]-116v [= 110v]); b) 'Les epistres' of Isocrates (translated by Louis de Matha) (118v [= 112v]-154v [= 148v]); c) 'Le manuel d'Epictete' (155r [= 149r]-181v [= 175v]) with 'Les sentences des philosophes de Grece' (182r [= 176r]-186r [= 180r]) (translated by Antoine de Moulin).
Note 2 'Les epistres de Phalaris' must be a reprint either of the edition of Jean Longin, Paris, 1550 (Brunet, IV, Column 597) or - more likely - of the edition of Benoit Rigaud and Jean Saugrain, Lyons, 1556 (Baudrier, Bibliographie lyonnaise, 3, pages 198-199). The 'Manuel d'Epictete', with the 'Sentences des philosophes de Grèce', was first printed at Lyons, Jean de Tournes, 1544 (Brunet, II, Column 1014). The 'Epistres d'Isocrates' must also be a reprint of a Parisian or Lyons publication.
Note 3 Some sales of the 'Epistres de Phalaris' are noted in Arch. 38, folio 16v (on 18 May 1558: 12 copies to J. Waesberghe), and in Arch. 34: 4 copies, worth 6 stuivers, to the widow Langelier at Paris, 5 June 1558 or after (folio 27r), 24 copies to Parisian booksellers, 12 February 1559 (folio 29r), 70 copies to Paris or Frankfurt, 24 October 1559 (folio 33r), 200 copies, worth 10 florins Carolus guilders, 'pour envoyer', at an unspecified date (folio 38r).
Note 4 Listed in M 296, folio 6r (Epist. de Phalaris etc., 12⁰, en fra[n]c[ois], 1558, f[euilles] 15, [price:] stuivers 1½), and M 164, folio 11v.
