Note 2Plantin was working on this edition at least from April 1575 (cf. his letter to de Villalva, 16 April 1575: Corr., IV, no. 617. See also his letters to de Virbiesca of 17 April and 3 June 1575 [Corr., IV, nos. 619 and 630]). In the first days of September 1575 he told de Virbiesca that the copies would soon be sent to Spain (Corr., V, no. 648).
Note 3The shipment to Spain was noted down on 29 October 1575. It included 1,200 copies printed on paper (1083 'à figures de bois' and 117 'à figures de cuivre'), and 12 on parchment. Another 2 copies were sent on 16 January 1576 (Arch. 22).
Note 4Listed in M 164, folio 3v, and M 296, folio 2r ('Breviarium Rom. in f⁰ réglé 1575, f[euilles] 320, [price:] florins Carolus guilders 10'). The price refers very likely to copies with copper engraving-illustrations.
