Note 2In May 1586 Plantin told his friends that he had started a breviary in 4⁰ in two volumes with the financial backing of booksellers of Paris [Sonnius] and Cologne [Mylius] (Corr., VII, nos. 1101 and 1102, cf. also no. 1112). On 30 September 1586 he sent a copy of the Pars hyemalis to the Spanish ambassador in Paris to forward it to de Cayas; on 24 October 1586 he did the same with the just finished Pars aestivalis (Corr., VIII-IX, no. 1162; cf. also nos. 1165, 1166, 1170).
Note 31,250 copies were printed (Arch. 788).
