Note 1 | On 28 May 1579 the Calvinists in Antwerp provoked an incident with the Catholics, in which Archduke Mathias became involved. This hastened the proclamation at Antwerp of a 'Religion's Peace' (see no. cp012364), but in this agreement between Archduke Mathias, the Prince of Orange, and the magistrate of the city of Antwerp some particular points about the behaviour of and the relations between Catholics and Calvinists at Antwerp are detailed. Contains: pages [3-7]: Text of the agreement (Antwerp, 11 June 1579; s. Matthias and Guillem de Nassau); [8]: According to an article of the agreement, the Union of Utrecht is promulgated and publicly cried in Antwerp (12 June 1579). |
Note 2 | A French edition was also published: see following no. |
