Note 1 Edition in Greek by Guilielmus Canterus of 19 plays of Euripides (Hecuba: 1-40; Orestes: 40-90; Phoenissae: 90-147; Medea: 141-190; Hippolytus: 191-235; Alcestis: 236-271; Andromacha: 272-312; Supplices: 312-349; Iphigenia in Aulis: 350-399; Iphigenia in Tauris: 399-444; Rhesus: 449-479; Troades: 480-520; Bacchae: 521-562; Cyclops: 563-584; Heraclidae: 585-616; Helena: 616-667; Ion: 668-717; Hercules furens: 718-761; Electra: 768-809), followed by annotations by Canterus ([810-832]) and a number of quotations from plays of Euripides in Greek with Latin translation ([833-847]).
Note 2 Canterus does not specify the editions he followed for the first 18 plays, but underlines that he used for the last eight plays of the series the annotations of Joannes Brodaeus and Henricus Stephanus. The Electra was edited after the edition by Petrus Victorius, 1545, and includes the dedicatory by Victorius to Cardinal Nicolaus Ardinghellus and the 'argumentum' (summary) of the play by the Italian scholar.
Note 3 The work must in fact have been finished late in 1570, as early in January 1571 Plantin had already mailed a copy to Andreas Masius (cf. Plantin's letter of 31 January 1571: Corr., III, no. 366).
Note 4 Listed in M 296, folio 5v (Euripides Graece a Will. Ca[n]tero castigat., 16⁰, f[euilles] 27½, [price:] stuivers 7), and Ms. 164, folio 10v.
