Online bibliographical references
Note 1 Edited by Hadrianus Junius, who came to study Martialis, as he explains in the dedicatory to Janus Dousa and in the note to the reader, after having acquired in England an old copy (manuscript) of the works of the Roman epigrammatist.
Note 2 According to the colophon the printing was finished in December 1567.
Note 3 The editor must have sent his manuscript to Antwerp in July 1567 as in his letter of 9 August he expresses his joy that Plantin had received in good order the text (Corr., III, no. 343: 'Martialis omnia accepisse te gaudeo, et ut primo quoque tempore diligenter excudas velim'. Cf. also Plantin's letter to Stephanus Pighius, 22 August 1567 [Corr., I, no. 81]: 'Accepisse Martialem nostrum et scripturum Junio de Rhinocerote').
Note 4 The edition is mentioned in some letters to and from Cardinal Granvelle (Suppl. Corr., nos. 47 [to Granvelle, 29 November 1567], 49 [from Granvelle, 29 January 1568]).
Note 5 A copy of 'Martialis 16⁰ ab Hadriano Junio' was shipped to Camerarius (letter of Plantin to Camerarius, 12 April 1568: Suppl. Corr., no. 58).
Note 6 Listed in M 296, folio 11v (Martialis ab Adri[an]o Junio castigat[us], 16⁰, a⁰ 68, f[euilles] 12, [price:] stuivers 3).
