Note 2 The 'variants' listed by Pulmannus, pages [326-344], were compiled from five old but not further defined manuscripts ('ex fide quinque librorum antiquorum descriptae').
Note 3 The cost-accounting note in Arch. 4, folio 60, gives the following details about 'Lucanus in 16º': the wages for composing and printing are entered from 23 January till 26 February 1564, and amount to 21 florins Carolus guilders 18½ stuivers Of the work 1,250 copies were printed. As each copy contains 11½ sheets, 29 reams 10 'mains' of paper 'carré de Pericard' were used, which, at 1 florins Carolus guilders 3½ stuivers per ream, came to 34 florins Carolus guilders 12 stuivers, bringing the overall costs to 56 florins Carolus guilders 10½ stuivers
Note 4 The expenses for compiling the index are not entered in the cost-accounting note. The making was entrusted to Mathias Ghisbrechts (Arch. 31, folio 72r: paid on 22 June 1564 'Item pour l'Index de Lucanus in 16º [and for a similar but larger work on the Sallustius; together]: 9 florins Carolus guilders).
Note 5 On 5 March 1564 the delivery of 300 copies, at 3 florins Carolus guilders per ream, is noted to the account of the brothers Birckman (Arch. 3, folio 7v; Arch. 39, folio 157).
Note 6 Listed in M 296, folio 10v (Lucanus in 16º, aº - , f[euilles] 11½, [price:] stuivers 2).
