This must be a confusion with the in 8⁰ edition of 1581. Cf. H. Green, Andrea Alciati and his Books of Emblems, no. 98a, who shows that a copy in the cantonal library of Aarau, claimed to be published in 1580, is in fact identical to the 1581-edition (in this particular case the title-page was missing, so that the year 1580, noted in the colophon, was mistaken for the 'official' year of publication). |
