Note 1 | In a letter to the Roman printer Galletti of September-October 1570 (Corr., II, no. 243), Plantin notes casually 'Depuis, j'ay encores faict une impression de mille Bréviaires in 8⁰ en ung volume'. This refers very likely to the in 8⁰ breviary printed in 1570 for Plantin by his former compositor, since 1568 installed as an independent printer, Hendrik Alsens. The latter received, on 26 February 1570, 58 florins Carolus guilders for 29 not specified sheets of an in 8⁰ breviary, on 10 May 1570, 35 florins Carolus guilders 8 stuivers for 12 sheets (P-Z, Aa-Ff) and on 10 June 1570 64 florins Carolus guilders for another 32 not specified sheets (Arch. 31, folio 35). No copy is known; not listed in M 164 and M 296. |
