Note 1Contains: a) Metrical versions of the elegies of the prophet Jeremias (pages 5-27); b) Metrical versions of a number of Biblical canticles (28-56); c) Collection of poems (Sylvula diversorum carminum…quae ad pietatem imprimis sunt necessaria) on Biblical and classical topics, including at the end a commemorative poem on the death of Joannes Costerius, prior of St. Martin at Louvain, and 'Adversus elogia quaedam conscripta in laudem praecipuorum nostri temporis haereticorum' (Lutherus, Calvinus, Bucerus, Viretus, Melanchton) (57-84).
Note 2In his letter to Latomus of 11 August 1586, in which Plantin acknowledges having received the 'Psalmi Davidici' (see preceding no.), he also urges the author to send him the 'Silva tua Canticorum et Hymnorum' in order to print it at the same time as the Psalmi, either in the same volume or as a separate publication (Corr., VIII-IX, no. 1129; cf. also the letter to H. Cuyckius of the same date, Ibidem, no. 1128). On 13 September 1586 the manuscript had not yet arrived (Ibidem, no. 1134), but on 7 October 1586 Plantin could affirm that he would begin printing the 'Hymni' at the earliest opportunity (Ibidem, no. 1157). This edition too was already finished in 1586 and not in 1587 as indicated on the title-page.
Note 3The author had complained about the many errors left in his Psalmi (see preceding no.). To make sure for this edition Plantin mailed on 30 October 1586 to the author the first three sheets, asking him to note eventual errors, in order to have them printed in the fifth and last sheet (Ibidem, no. 1168). Some days later the typographer urged Latomus to send him the list so as to be able to finish the job (Ibidem, no. 1168, page 80, note 1). It is not quite sure if the author obliged, as the 'Emendationes', noted on page 84 in the last quire of the edition, are limited to four small errors.
Note 4Not listed in M 296 or M 321.
