| Note 2 | Plantin's Latin dedicatory to the Antwerp magistrate in the 1566-edition had been replaced by a French one to Gerard Grammay, in which the typographer digresses at length on the human body. |
| Note 3 | As early as 1566 Plantin commissioned Martin Evrard to make 'la traduction de l'Anatomie en flameng'. The translator was paid 24 florins Carolus guilders on 12 May 1566 (Arch. 3, folio 50r). |
