Note 1 | The Walloon provinces of the Netherlands signed on 6 January 1579 the 'Union of Arras' and opened negotiations with Philip II. The States-General tried to prevent the reconciliation. This pamphlet contains: pages [3-5]: Letter of the States of the city of Lille and of the châtellenies of Lille, Douai and Orchies to the States-General affirming that their primary intention remains the withdrawal of the Spanish and other foreign troops from the Netherlands (Lille, 31 March 1579, signed by Desfontaines); [6-8]: As annex to this letter a resolution by the same States on the same point (Lille, 30 March 1579, signed by Desfontaines); [9-14]: Answer of the States-General (Antwerṗ, 8 April 1579, signed by A. Blyleven). |
