Note 1 | Contains the Latin translation of the 150 Psalms, each psalm preceded by a summary and followed by an explanation. |
Note 2 | The work is followed by some 'Poems on Divine Matters', dedicated to Margarete of Valois, sister of King Henry II of France (see following no.): presented as a separate publication, it forms in fact with the In librum Psalmorum brevis explanatio but one volume, and was normally sold together with it. |
Note 3 | Very likely a reprint of an Italian or French edition. |
Note 4 | At an unspecified date (c. 1558), in a large consignment of books 'pour envoyer', Plantin noted '500 flaminius in 16⁰ coustent pièce 2½ [stuivers] au prix de l'impression et papier faict 62 florins Carolus guilders 10 stuivers' (Arch. 34, folio 37). Copies were sold from June 1558 onwards (Arch. 38, folio 56: to Jan Steelsius 4 copies on 5 June, 1 on 10 July, 5 on 27 July, and 12 on 29 July 1558; Arch. 34, pages 26-27: 12 copies, worth 2 florins Carolus guilders 8 stuivers, to Martin le Jeune, Paris, and 6 copies, worth 1 florins Carolus guilders 7 stuivers, to the widow de l'Angelier, Paris, on 5 June 1558). |
Note 5 | Listed in M 296, folio 6v (Flaminius in Psalmos, in 16⁰, 1558, f[euilles] 24½, [price:] stuivers 4), and M 164, folio 13v. The number of sheets given makes it clear that the publication as noted in the catalogues includes both the In librum Psalmorum brevis explanatio and the De rebus divinis carmina: 23 + 1½ = 24½. |
