Note 1 | Reprint of the edition of 1565, but with the addition of 24 woodcut-illustrations: the first book, with its 113 emblems, has still 112 illustrations as in 1565, but in the second book 24 of the 85 emblems are now illustrated. |

Note 3 | The cost-accounting note in Arch. 4, folio 103 verso, gives but a few details about 'Alciati Emblemata cum comment'. The wages for composing and printing are entered from 8 September till 25 October 1566, and amount to 19 florins Carolus guilders 8 stuivers, but the reams of paper used, the price of the paper and the number of copies printed are not given. |
Note 4 | The expenses for the additional wood-blocks of the 2nd book are already entered in the cost-accounting note of the 1565-edition (Arch. 4, folio 66 verso): 'pour la pourtraicture et taille de 29 figures [in fact only 24 were used] du 2. livre', at 8½ stuivers for the drawings and 8 stuivers for the cutting, 23 florins Carolus guilders 9½ stuivers The drawings were made by the Paris draughtsman G. Ballain, who was paid for them as early as 10 April 1565 (Arch. 3, folio 25 recto), the wood-blocks were cut by A. Nicolai in April-June 1565 (Arch. 31, folio 51 recto). |
