Note 1 | Second edition of Felisius's Elucidatio with some corrections. |
Note 2 | The dedicatory, dated Louvain, 25 November 1575, is, however, identical to the one in the first edition, dated Malines, 25 November 1572. Felisius died on 6 March 1576. This can mean that death prevented him from producing a new text, so that Plantin decided to use the former one, but tried to conceal the proceeding by changing the date. As, however, the work was actually achieved in 1575, a more likely explanation is that Felisius, failing to produce in time a new dedicatory, agreed to use the older one with only the change in the date. |
Note 3 | As duly noted in the colophon the work was printed by Joannes Masius at Louvain, at the expenses and with the type of Plantin. Arch. 31, folio 81, gives a few details about the transactions between Plantin and the Louvain typographer on this particular publication: 'à bon compte de felisius in Decalogum' Plantin mailed to Masius on 20 August 1575 24 florins Carolus guilders 10 stuivers, on 22 September 26 florins Carolus guilders, and on 16 October 18 florins Carolus guilders 13 stuivers To this was added in November a sum of 6 florins Carolus guilders to Georges van Spangenberghe (very likely to be identified with the 'Georges Spang., imprimeur' who worked in the Officina Plantiniana in 1571: Arch. 31, folio 178). This can mean that Van Spangenberghe printed also some sheets of the Decalogi elucidatio. |
Note 4 | Listed in M 296, folio 6v ([Felisius in Decalogum, 8⁰] Idem a⁰ 75, f[euilles] 3 [= error for 41], [price:] stuivers 10), and M 164, folio 13v. |
