Note 2 | Granvelle in due time got into the possession of a copy of the edition, but he was rather surprised that the 'Messieurs d'Anvers' (= States-General) had taken the trouble to publish these intercepted letters, as their content had nothing provocative (letter to Morillon, 12 August 1582: Suppl. Corr., no. 175). |
