Note 1 | Reprint in 8⁰ of the Institutionum libri IIII as it appeared in Charondas's 1575 in folio edition. This school-manual for teaching Roman law was in great demand: of his 1567 in 8⁰ edition Plantin had printed 2,500 copies of the Institutiones as compared to 1,600 copies for the other parts. For the same reason Plantin must have decided in 1575 to bring on the market of his revised version a more handy edition than the bulky in folio. |
Note 2 | On pages 131-134 are shown typographically (with a small woodcut on page 132) 3 'stemmata consanguinitatis'. They are preceded on page 131 by a note 'Charondas lectori', in which the scholar explains that he found an interesting old representation in the Dionysianus manuscript he had used: this is the stemma on page 132. The stemma on page 134, with underneath the note 'Antonius Contius lectori', has been compiled by this specialist. |
