Online bibliographical references
Note 1Medical-philosophical treatise, especially on monstruosities and astronomical influences on mankind, in two books (each with its own title-page and numeration).
Note 2Some of the woodcuts were certainly executed by Antoon van Leest and Gerard Janssen van Kampen: on 3 September 1574 the former received 9 florins Carolus guilders for 8 'figures du livre de Gemma de divers prix' (Arch. 31, folio 167), and the second 3 florins Carolus guilders 11½ stuivers for '6½ figures du livre de Prodigiis Gemmae à 11 stuivers pièce les grandes et les carrées deux pour une' (Arch. 31, folio 77). This accounts only for 15 of the 64 woodcuts, but the entries are not always detailed. Very likely A. van Leest and G. Janssen van Kampen cut also the remaining blocks.
Note 3Four copies of 'Gemma de characterismis', valued 2 florins Carolus guilders, were included in the shipment of books sent to the bookseller Pierre Boccangelino, at Toledo, on 9 June 1575 (Suppl. Corr., no. 241, page 273).
Note 4Listed in M 296, folio 4v (De naturae divinis characterismis Cor. Gemmȩ, 8º, 1575, f[euilles] 35, [price:] stuivers 10) and folio 7v, and M 164, folio 14r.
