Note 1 | Two religious treatises: 1º) A comment on the Nativity, based on Lucas (pages 5-43); 2º) A comment on the four cardinal virtues and the eight beatitudes, based especially on Isaias (pages 44-64). The treatise announced on the title-page, De septem donis Spiritus Sancti, does not seem to have been printed. The Libellus de Spiritus Sancti missione, also announced on the title-page, has in fact been issued as a separate publication (see following no.). |
Note 2 | Printed by Plantin for his Antwerp colleague, Antonius Tilenius. |
Note 3 | According to the colophon the printing was finished on 10 January 1565. |
Note 4 | The cost-accounting note in Arch. 4, folio 74, gives the following details about 'Luytenius de Nativit[ate] et miss. S. Sp[iritu]s': the wages for composing and printing the two treatises are entered on 24 December 1564 (A.B. of De Nativitate and A.b. of De Missione S. Spiritus) and 13 January 1565 (C.D. of De Nativitate), and amount to 10 florins Carolus guilders 10 stuivers Sixteen reams of paper 'petit bastard' were used (meaning that some 1,330 copies were printed; most likely, however, 1,250 copies, with some paper for the 'imperfections'), which, at 1 florins Carolus guilders 4 stuivers per ream, came to 19 florins Carolus guilders 4 stuivers, bringing the overall costs to 29 florins Carolus guilders 14 stuivers |
Note 5 | Listed in M 296, folio 4v (De nativitate Christi per Hen. Luitenium, 8º, f[euilles] 6 [= meaning thus no. 1615 (= 4 sheets) and no. 1616 (= 2 sheets) together], [price:] stuivers 1½), and M 164, folio 8v. |
