Note 2 | In the dedicatory Stevin affirms that he is not the inventor of these tables, as Jan Trenchant had written before him on the subject in the 3rd book of his Arithmetics, and as he had furthermore heard that in Holland similar tables were circulating but were kept secret by those who possessed them: copies were expensive, especially regarding the explanation of the construction of the interests. |
