Note 1How Joannes Matthaeus Gryllus, citizen of Salerno, abjured the Calvinist heresy. In the 'Abiurationis ratio servata' (page 2) details are given about the actual scene of the 'abiuratio' (Avignon, 22 July 1568, in the presence of a number of important church-dignitaries). The 'Abiuratio' (pages 3-29) details the reasons which induced Gryllus to go back to the Catholic Church, and is dated Avignon, 24 July 1568.
Note 2The note on page [30] specifies that the text was reprinted from the publication which appeared in Dillingen (Bavaria) in 1569.
Note 3In all probability Plantin was forced by the authorities to publish the work.
Note 4A Dutch translation was published the same year and very likely a French translation as well (see following nos.).
