Note 1 | The 'ABC et 7 Pseaumes' appears as the second last book printed by Plantin during his partnership with the Van Bomberghens in the cost-accounting ledger, Arch. 4, folio 122 verso. The note specifies that, on 28 August 1567, 9 florins Carolus guilders were paid for the printing of 2½ sheets 'rouge et noir'. As the format is not indicated, it is not possible to estimate the number of pages. There were 1,500 copies printed and 8 reams of paper used, a 'papier fin petit carré', that, at 1 florins Carolus guilders 8 stuivers per ream, came to 11 florins Carolus guilders 4 stuivers The total costs were, consequently, 20 florins Carolus guilders 4 stuivers No copy has been located. |
