Note 1 | Contains devotional works of two medieval mystics: Guilhelmus, Orationes sive meditationes (7-114) and Libellus de amore (115-145), and Guigo, Meditationes aliquot pietissimae (150-228), followed by a prayer to the Virgin, compiled from writings of St. Bernardus (229-231). |
Note 2 | Very likely a reprint of an earlier Antwerp or in any case a Dutch edition, as the different approbationes, dated Louvain, 1546, seem to indicate. Perhaps the edition of 1550 published in Antwerp by the widow of H. Peetersen van Middelburch (a copy in KB National Library of the Netherlands; cf. BCN, no. 2235). |
Note 3 | It may be surmised that Plantin had been asked to re-edit these devotional writings, but the unsigned 'praefatio ad lectorem' does not give a clue about the personalities or religious institutions interested in the publication. |
Note 4 | Listed in M 296, folio 11v (Meditationes devotissimae Guill. Abbatis, aº 89, f[euilles] 7½, [price:] stuivers 3), and Ms. 321. |
