Note 1 Second Dutch edition of the Epitome, with 83 maps, of which 11 are new (detailed in BB and Koeman); same general disposition as in the preceding editions.
Note 2 The foreword 'Totten wandelaers' is completely different from the Dutch 1577 (and the French 1579) edition(s): it contains an account of the events in the Netherlands during the period of the Duke of Anjou, and concludes with a poem signed N. Clemens Trelaeus. In the (new) introductory pieces Heyns gives again some autobiographical details (cf. BB, III, page 452).
Note 3 The costs for printing are not very clearly entered in Plantin's ledger (Arch. 20, folio 146; text reproduced in Denucé, I, page 249). In September 1583 Galle was charged 'Voor 7½ bladeren gedrukt in den duyschen spiegel op elck bladt 7 boecken, 53 boecken tot 6 stuivers den riem: 4 florins Carolus guilders 16 stuivers; Voor het drucken ende setten ende ander oncosten gerekent voor de 7½ bladeren voors. tot 2 florins Carolus guilders het blad: 15 florins Carolus guilders [for 7½ sheets printed in the Dutch mirror; on each sheet 7 'books', i.e. 53 'books', at 6 stuivers per ream: 4 florins Carolus guilders 16 stuivers; for printing and composing and other costs for the 7½ sheets aforesaid, at 2 florins Carolus guilders per sheet: 15 florins Carolus guilders]'. The sale of 33 reams of paper to Galle mentioned immediately above at the date of September 1583 refers very likely also to this edition (20 reams at 1 florins Carolus guilders 8 stuivers per ream: 28 florins Carolus guilders; 1 ream at 1 florins Carolus guilders 5 stuivers; 12 reams, at 1 florins Carolus guilders 8 stuivers per ream: 16 florins Carolus guilders 16 stuivers).
