Note 1 | Royal decree (Privy Council: Antwerp, 14 December 1570, s. D'Overloepe): levying and modalities for the duchy of Brabant of sale's taxes for the payment to the King of a sum of 542,000 pounds Artois (which had to replace the sale's taxes of the 10th and 20th penny). |
Note 2 | A French edition was also issued: see following no. |
Note 3 | Both the Dutch and French editions must in fact have been printed (probably with Plantinian type) by the Antwerp typographer Hendrik Alsens: Plantin credited him on 7 March 1571 the sum of 49 florins Carolus guilders 10 stuivers for delivering 66 reams of the ordonnance, at 15 stuivers per ream (probably only the costs for printing, at the exclusion of the price of the paper: we may suppose that Plantin supplied the amounts of paper necessary for the printing). As each copy contained 3 sheets, this means that in all 11,000 copies were printed by Alsens (Arch. 31, folio 91). |
Note 4 | Plantin delivered to M. van Hamont on 22 December 1570 850 copies of the Dutch edition for the sum of 42 florins Carolus guilders 10 stuivers and on 2 and 9 January 1571 another 4,307 copies of the Dutch and 4,500 copies of the French edition for the sum of 440 florins Carolus guilders (Arch. 17, folio 141). |
