Note 1 | To eliminate frictions between Catholics and Protestants in the city of Antwerp, a 'Religion's Peace' was worked out by Archduke Mathias, the Prince of Orange and the State-Council, submitted to the Antwerp magistrate and accepted by it (12 June 1579; s. 'me praesente' Martiny). |
Note 2 | A French version was also published: see following no. |
Note 3 | The proclamation of this 'Religion's Peace' in Antwerp was hastened by an incident between Protestants and Catholics, in which Archduke Mathias was involved (28 May 1579), and which resulted in another agreement, published separately: see no. cp013274. |
Note 4 | Plantin delivered to the States-General, on 15 June 1579, 162 copies (editions - Dutch and French - not specified), billed 4 florins Carolus guilders 1 stuivers (Arch. 18, folio 383). He delivered another 200 copies (again editions not specified) to the military authorities of Antwerp, billed 7 florins Carolus guilders 10 stuivers The date entered in the ledger is 15 May 1579 but this is very likely an error for 15 June 1579 (Arch. 18, folio 331). |
