Note 1 See cp012137
Note 2 Karen Lee Bowen differentiates two variants of this Officium. Variant A contains engraved illustrations and corresponds with the British Library copy that Voet describes. Variant B, however, contains woodcut illustrations. The copy in the Speeckaert collection of an example of the woodcut illustrations containing variant. For an extensive bibliographical description of variant B see Bowen, Books of Hours, 244.
Note 3 Bowen states that Voet’s identification of the Bibliothèque de l’Arsenal’s Officium as another copy of this edition is incorrect. She identifies this as a variant of the 12° book of hours that Voet describes in cp012501. (Bowen, Books of Hours, 244)
Note 4 According to Bowen, Voet’s listing of the contents of this Officium does contain the following few oversights: (1) the “Institutio christiana” is just on pages 22-26, while the “Initium sancti evangelium Ioannem” is on pages 26-27; (2) the “Officium B. Mariae Virginis” is just on pages 29-146; (3) there is an illustration on page [147]; (4) the “Officium defunctorum” is on pages 148-206; and (5) there are illustrations on pages [308] and [356]. Furthermore, Bowen states that upon her examination of the London copy, she was often unable to find all of the initials noted by Voet for the illustrations. Specifically, she notes the following, all contrary to what is noted in Voet’s list of illustrations of this copy: page [28] no initials seen; page [71] no initials seen; page [77] only “IHW” initials seen; page [83] only “IHW” initials seen, page [89] only “IHW” initials seen; page [95] only “IHW” initials seen; page [147] only “IHW” initials seen; page [213] no initials seen; page [308] no initials seen; page [322] no initials seen; page [334] no initials seen; page [346] no initials seen; page [356] no initials seen. (Bowen, Books of Hours, 244)
Note 5 Karen Lee Bowen states that both variants were set and printed between September and November 1574. She refers to Arch. 32, folio 134 recto for the payments for the setting of this Officium  and to Arch. 32, folios 133 recto and opening 158 left for the printing. Finally, for the printing of the engraved illustrations for at least part of this edition she refers to a payment made to Mynken Liefrinck between October 1574 and July 1575 for engravings printed for the “grooten horas” [large book of hours] in Arch. 18, opening 82 right. (Bowen, Books of Hours, 245)
