Note 1 | French translation by J. Grévin of Nicander's Theriaca (an account of various snakes and other poisonous creatures and the best remedies against their bites) and Alexipharmaca (enumeration of vegetable, mineral, and animal poisons and their antidotes). Grévin's French translation was not made after the Greek original, but after the Latin translation of Jean de Gorris (translation of the Alexipharmaca: Paris, 1549; of the Theriaca, published with a reprint of the Alexipharmaca: Paris, 1557) (cf. Pinvert [= see Grévin, no. 1266], pages 103-104). |
Note 2 | Although formally presented as a separate edition, it forms in fact part of Grévin, Deux livres des venins, 1568, and was normally sold together with it (see no. cp010933). |
