Note 1 | Letter by the General of the Societas Jesu to the members of the Society, more especially regarding 'de studio perfectionis et caritate fraterna'. The letter is dated Rome, 19 May 1586. It was considered by the editors of the 1587-edition to be the second general letter addressed by Aquaviva to the Society. In fact, it must have been the third ('De felici progressu Societatis', 28 June 1581; 'De renovatione spiritus', 29 September 1583. Cf. De Backer-Sommervogel, I, Column 482). |
Note 2 | The edition itself is not dated, but, as the approbatio by Silvester Pardo was signed on 7 January 1587, it may be taken for granted that the printing was finished in the beginning of 1587. |
Note 3 | The unusual imprint let suppose that this edition was printed by Plantin at the demand and the expenses of the Antwerp Jesuits. |
Note 4 | Not listed in M 164, M 296 and M 321. |
