Note 1 | Only copies with the Leiden-imprint are known. Very likely, as was the case for practically all the editions of Lipsius printed in the Officina Plantiniana in Leiden between 1583 and 1589, a number of copies received a title-page with Plantin's Antwerp imprint. The publication, however, is not listed in M 296 and Ms. 321. |
Note 2 | In a letter to Plantin, Lipsius wrote on 1 April 1589: 'J'ay delivré à Andries [foreman of Raphelengius's printing house?] Constantiam cum notis marginalibus pour imprimer en faille de copie. Car il me dict que Vulcanius tarde de lui fournir, quoiqu'il l'admoneste et presse. Entre deux pourrat-il faire quelque chose in Constanciam, et point aultrement' (Corr., VIII-IX, no. 1454). |
