Online bibliographical references
Note 1Edition 'ad longum' as Plantin explains in a letter to Alanus Copus, 31 January 1573 (Corr., III, no. 461: 'Breviaria tamen in folio ferme tota ad longum hoc est cum paucissimis requisitionibus in gratiam eorum qui non libenter devotionem suam quaerendo interturbant brevi est paritura'). Cf. also no. 819.
Note 2Plantin was busy on this monumental edition from the first half of 1572 (he sent already some sheets to de Cayas in June - July: Corr., III, no. 394), but had to slow down the project owing to lack of working capital (cf. his letter to the Bishop of Tournai, 21-24 January 1573: Corr., III, no. 456). The work was not yet finished on 8 April 1573 (letter to de Villalva: Corr., III, no. 468), but in May 1573 copies were shipped to Spain.
Note 3The shipment to Philip ‖ on 8 May 1573 contained 810 copies on 'papier commun' and 144 on 'grand papier' (Arch. 22). At 4 florins Carolus guilders 10 stuivers for the copies on 'papier commun' and 5 florins Carolus guilders 10 stuivers for the copies on 'grand papier' they represented a value of 4,437 florins Carolus guilders
Note 4Listed in M 296, folio 2r (Breviarium Rom. in f⁰ du pap[ier] commun, f[euilles] -, [price:] florins Carolus guilders 6 stuivers 10. Idem in f⁰ du papier plus grand et fin, f[euilles] -, [price:] florins Carolus guilders 8), and M 164, folio 3v.
