| Note 1 | Edition 'ad longum' as Plantin explains in a letter to Alanus Copus, 31 January 1573 (Corr., III, no. 461: 'Breviaria tamen in folio ferme tota ad longum hoc est cum paucissimis requisitionibus in gratiam eorum qui non libenter devotionem suam quaerendo interturbant brevi est paritura'). | Note 2 | Plantin was busy on this monumental edition from the first half of 1572 (he sent already some sheets to de Cayas in June - July: Corr., III, no. 394), but had to slow down the project owing to lack of working capital (cf. his letter to the Bishop of Tournai, 21-24 January 1573: Corr., III, no. 456). The work was not yet finished on 8 April 1573 (letter to de Villalva: Corr., III, no. 468), but in May 1573 copies were shipped to Spain. |
