| Note 1 | M 296 , folio 9 recto, lists 'Heures en francois in 12º, aº 1558, f[euilles] 10, [price:] stuivers 2'. No copy is known. It is possible that a mistake in the date has been made and that 1558 should be read 1557, referring to the publication described in the preceding no., which is also an in 12mo, containing 10 sheets. |
| Note 4 | The possibility, however, exists that Plantin had issued a new edition in 1558. In any case, if besides the rather large shipment to Angelier in June 1557, and some minor ones in July and August, no other sales can be traced in that year, from February 1558 onwards the printer marketed again quite large numbers of 'Heures en francoys', making it likely that he brought out a new edition: on 11 February 1558 100 copies, worth 6 florins Carolus guilders, to the widow Langelier at Paris (Arch. 34, pages 19 and 21); on 11 March 1557 [= for 1558] 75 copies, worth 7 florins Carolus guilders 10 stuivers, to the Frankfurt Fairs; on 9 March 1558 6 'Horas en romance', worth 18 stuivers, to Joannes van Waesberghen at Antwerp (Arch. 38, folio 16 verso); on 6 September and 25 October 1558 10 and 4 copies to Steelsius in Antwerp (Arch. 38, folio 56 verso); finally on 12 February 1559 another 24 'heures françoys' to Lucas Brayer in Paris (Arch. 34, page 28). In a letter to Plantin of 18 August 1558 Martin le Jeune notes that he has sent to Lyons 'de vos petites Heures' (Correspondance de C. Plantin, I, no. 2). |
