Note 1 | Enlarged reprint. As stated on the title-page the 'Appendix dictionum Chaldaicarum' has been considerably enlarged. It is now followed by a second appendix (pages [491] -495) introduced as 'Quoniam aliquot paginae vacabant, operae pretium esse duximus hic pauculas quorundam cum Veterum, tum recentiorum Interpretationes subiiecere, eo potissimum nomine quod a vulgaribus quas in Lexico Hebr. supra posuimus, maxima ex parte different', and ending with the note 'Sunt et alia, quae consulto omittimus, quia locus non caperet: nec nostri instituti est singulorum versiones et Interpretationes huc in medium adferre'. |
Note 2 | The printer's mark used on the title-page makes it clear that this edition must in fact have been printed in the Officina Plantiniana Francisci Raphelengii in Leiden - notwithstanding the fact that this category of 'Antwerp' editions has generally the imprint 'Apud Christophorum Plantinum'. Anyway, this can explain why the publication is not mentioned in the Plantinian catalogues, including M 321. |
Note 3 | A very much enlarged edition was published by F. Raphelengius at Leiden in 1596, this time with his name on the title-page - as the publisher as well as the editor of the treatise (Epitome thesauri linguae sanctae, auctore Sancte Pagnino Lucensi Fr. Raphelengius compluribus locis auxit, emendavit, et Appendicem dictionum Chaldaicarum addidit…') (a copy in Museum Plantin-Moretus, R 56.10). |
