| Note 2 | Sonnius published some theological treatises under the title Demonstrationum religionis ex verbo Dei…: a liber primus and a liber secundus at Louvain, S. Valerius, 1555, a liber tertius at Antwerp, M. Nutius, 1557. The three books were published together: Antwerp, 1562; Cologne, 1563; Antwerp and Lyons, 1564; Paris, 1568. In the foreword to the Demonstrationum…libri III the author states that his work should consist of six books. The fourth book, published in the year of the death of Sonnius, is the one described here. The two others did not appear. Cf. Biographie Nationale [de Belgique], 23, Columns 185-188. |
| Note 3 | In a letter to de Çayas, 21 August 1576, Plantin tells incidentally that in the shipment of missals for Spain he put some 'Demonstrationes Sonnii', to be forwarded to Arias Montanus, who could distribute them at his discretion (Corr., V, no. 736). |
