Note 2 | Sales include: 50 copies, worth 7 florins Carolus guilders 10 stuivers, to Martin le Jeune at Paris on 5 June 1558 (Arch. 34, folio page 26; one copy, being 'defect', was sent back to Plantin by M. le Jeune on 18 August 1558: Correspondance de C. Plantin, I, no. 2, page 6), and 50 copies, value not noted, to Lucas [Brayer] at Paris on 12 February 1559 (Ibidem, page 28). Plantin, who at that time sold also paper, notes on 2 February 1558 that he 'prins moymesmes pour imprimer Diurnale Romanum et horae parve 35 rames de 15 à 17 [stuivers]: 29 florins Carolus guilders 15 stuivers' (Arch. 38, folio 79 recto); meaning that some 1,750 (or, when taking into account the 'imperfections' some 1,500) copies were printed. |
