Note 1 | Collection of 86 Latin fables of Aesop, 43 of them illustrated. Of these woodcuts 39 had been used in Plantin's editions of the Fables of Faernius (1566, 1567, 1573, 1585: see nos. 1162-1165); the remaining four in the Emblemata of Alciatus, 1584 (2 woodcuts: pages 45 and 79), of Junius, 1585 (1: page 19) and of Sambucus, 1584 (1: page 3). |
Note 2 | The printer's mark on the title-page and the formula of the address ('Apud Christophorum Plantinum') make it clear that this edition was in fact printed in the Officina Plantiniana Francisci Raphelengii in Leiden. A copy with the Leiden-imprint of F. Raphelengius in Nationalbibliothek Vienna. |
