Note 1 | Reprint from the 1580, 1582, 1583, 1584-editions, in the same nonpareille type. |
Note 2 | Not listed in M 164, M 296, and M 321. |
Note 3 | Regarding the promised Variae lectiones the same text is reproduced as in the 1580-edition (cf. no. cp011062), notwithstanding the fact that the Notationes in Novum Testamentum had already been printed in the 1584-edition of the New Testament (see no. cp011562) and that in 1580, in a separate edition, the very elaborate Notationes in Sacra Biblia by F. Lucas, including the Old Testament as well as the New Testament, had been published by Plantin (reprinted in the in folio edition of 1583). Very likely Plantin didn't fullfill his promise because he didn't have for the Old Testament the same abridged version as for the New Testament. |
Note 4 | On 3 May 1587, Poelman, at Salamanca, ordered 400 copies (Corr., VIII-IX, no. 1251), and on 23 August 1587 another bookseller working in Spain, Ambroise Duport, at Medina del Campo, asked for another 200 copies, but on conditions which are not likely to have been accepted by Plantin (Corr., VIII-IX, no. 1293). |
