Note 1Apology of the Catholic Church, especially regarding the situation in the German Empire. In two volumes, the first with on the title-page the date of 1568, the second with the date of 1569 (and the colophon stating that the printing was actually finished on 15 February 1569). The two volumes form the 'prima pars' of the Apologeticum (cf. in the second volume, page 176) and must have been normally sold together. A 'pars secunda' or 'pars altera' was issued in 1570 (see following no.).
Note 2In Arch. 31, folio 160r, is specified under 'Apologeticum Lindani': 'Privil. 17 Martii 1567 stilo Brab[antiae] (= meaning o.s.; in 'new' style: 17 March 1568) ad sexen. Vander Aa, et 9 May 1568, J. de Witte; commencé en Octobre 1568 par Henry Martens [= compositor] la forme des préfaces à 6 stuivers et des livres à 7 stuivers Imprimé à 1250 in 4º'.
Note 3Listed in M 296, folio 1r (Apologetici ad germanos Wil. Lindani p[rim]a pars, f[euilles] -, [price:] stuivers 11), and M 164, folio 1r.
Note 4RDB, page 183 (1578, no. 2), referring to Valerius Andreas, mentions an edition of 1578: this must be a confusion with the 1568-1570 publications.
