Note 3 | The poem signed 'Labore et Constantia (= Plantin) has been reproduced in Sabbe, Les rimes de Plantin, 1922, page 20, no. IV, and Suppl. Corr., no. 260. |
Note 4 | As the privilege has been granted to Meurier, it may be assumed that the work was commissioned by the author. Plantin himself sold some copies to Antwerp colleagues: 4 'Vocabulaire francoys flameng' to Cornelius van de Kerckhove on 9 April 1557 (Arch. 38, folio 15); 2 copies, worth 4 stuivers, to Martin Nutius on 5 August 1557 (Ibidem, folio 5bis); 6 'colloques Meurier' to Birckman on 28 March 1558 (Ibidem, folio 10); while 6 copies were shipped to Arnould Langelier in Paris on 18 June 1557 (Arch. 34, folio 17). Plantin must have delivered the larger part of the copies to Meurier, but for some reason 100 'Vocabulaires', worth, at 2 stuivers a piece, 10 florins Carolus guilders, were, together with an equal number of 'Grammaires' and 'Colloques', returned to the printer on 2 July [1557] 'le tout à payer [par Plantin] en livres…' (Arch. 38, folio 81r) (cf. also nos. 1665 and 1668). |
Note 5 | Listed in M 296, folio 20r (Vocabulaire de Gab. Meurier fran. et flameng in 8⁰, A⁰ 1557, f[euilles] 17, [price:] stuivers 2). |
